Cavalier King Charles Spaniel grooming in York

Hello, I'm Lucy, and the gentle, affectionate Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a real joy to have on my table. Cavaliers carry a silky, medium length coat with beautiful feathering on the ears, legs, feet, chest and tail. It's a moderate maintenance coat rather than a high one, but that lovely feathering is exactly where knots like to gather, so it rewards a little regular attention to stay soft and comfortable.

Cavaliers are traditionally kept natural and tidied rather than clipped short, and they aren't hand stripped either, so my job is to enhance what your dog already has rather than change it. When your Cavalier visits, we begin with a warm bath, then I dry the coat properly so it sits as it should, before combing through the feathering and neatly tidying the ears, feet, legs and tail to keep everything looking smart and tangle free. The ears in particular need regular care, as that long, silky feathering sits close to the head and can mat if it's left. I finish with clean ears and nails trimmed to a comfortable length.

Meet Lucy at Fluffs

I'm Lucy, and a real love of dogs is what brought me to grooming in the first place. I'm City and Guilds Level 2 and 3 qualified, and there's something especially satisfying about keeping a Cavalier's silky feathering soft, flowing and tidy. Every dog leaves with a proper fuss and a wagging tail. You can find out more about me over on the About page.

Because the coat is tidied rather than clipped back, a Cavalier generally does well with a grooming visit roughly every six to eight weeks, alongside a gentle brush at home to keep the feathering flowing. Every appointment is one to one and completely crate free, so your Cavalier is never sat waiting in a cage and has my full attention throughout. I hold a Level 2 and 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming, and I keep the whole visit calm and unhurried, taking as much time as your dog needs. From soft coated puppies to long standing regulars from across York, that patient approach never changes.

FAQs

Common Questions

When can my Cavalier King Charles puppy have their first groom?

Bring your Cavalier puppy in as soon as they've had their second set of vaccinations, usually around 12 to 14 weeks. My Puppy Introduction is all about happy associations, getting them comfortable with the bath, brush and dryer while everything is new. Starting young helps your Cavalier take the whole routine in their stride, so those ears and feathering are easy to care for throughout their life.

How often does a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel need grooming?

For most Cavaliers I'd suggest a tidy up groom roughly every six to eight weeks. Their coat is moderate maintenance rather than high, but the feathering on the ears, legs, chest and tail can knot if it's neglected. A regular brush at home between visits keeps that silky coat flowing, and it means each appointment is a quick, comfortable and happy experience for your dog.

Is a Cavalier King Charles coat clipped or hand stripped?

Neither, really. Cavaliers are traditionally kept natural and simply tidied rather than clipped short, and they aren't hand stripped, so there's no plucking involved. My aim is to enhance that lovely silky coat, combing through the feathering and neatening the ears, feet, legs and tail. Kept this way, your Cavalier keeps their classic look while staying comfortable and free of mats.

What's your cancellation policy?
