Caring for your Cavapoo in York

Hello, I'm Lucy, and I really do love welcoming Cavapoos through my door. As a Cavalier and Poodle cross, your Cavapoo carries a soft, wavy to curly coat that keeps growing continuously rather than moulting, which is part of what makes them such charming companions. That lovely texture comes with a catch though, because it mats surprisingly easily, particularly behind the ears, down the legs and along the harness line where friction builds up, so it asks for steady, regular upkeep.

Because the coat never stops growing, most Cavapoos do best with a full groom every six to eight weeks, supported by gentle brushing and combing at home to keep those waves open between visits. When your Cavapoo comes to me, we start with a warm bath, then I dry the coat straight so I can see exactly what's going on, before clipping and scissoring into a neat, even shape. Cavapoos aren't hand stripped, so there's no plucking involved. The popular teddy bear trim suits so many of them, leaving a soft rounded face and a tidy, practical body, though I'll always shape things to suit your dog. I finish with clean ears and nails trimmed to a comfortable length.

The groomer behind Fluffs

I'm Lucy, and grooming genuinely is my favourite thing in the world. I'm City and Guilds Level 2 and 3 qualified, and I never tire of coaxing a soft, tangle prone Cavapoo coat back into something snuggly and comfortable. Every dog gets patience and a proper fuss. You can read a little more about me and my story over on the About page.

Every appointment is one to one and completely crate free, so your Cavapoo is never left waiting in a cage and has my full attention from start to finish. I hold a Level 2 and 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming, and I keep the whole visit calm and unhurried, taking as much time as your dog needs. From bouncy puppies having their very first trim to familiar faces from right across York, the gentle approach never changes.

FAQs

Common Questions

When can my Cavapoo puppy have their first groom?

Bring your Cavapoo puppy in as soon as they've had their second set of vaccinations, usually around 12 to 14 weeks. My Puppy Introduction is all about happy associations, getting them comfortable with the bath, brush, dryer and clippers while the coat is still soft. Starting early matters for Cavapoos, because that continuously growing coat needs regular grooming for life, so I want them to enjoy it from the very beginning.

How often does a Cavapoo need grooming?

I'd recommend a full groom every six to eight weeks for most Cavapoos. Their soft, wavy coat grows continuously and doesn't moult, so leaving it much longer lets mats form close to the skin, especially around the ears, legs and harness line. Regular brushing and combing at home between visits keeps the coat open and makes each appointment far easier and happier for your dog.

Is a Cavapoo's coat clipped or hand stripped?

Cavapoos are clipped and scissored, not hand stripped, so there's no plucking involved. That soft, continuously growing coat is maintained by clipping and shaping, which is exactly why those regular six to eight week visits matter. The teddy bear trim is a firm favourite, leaving a rounded, cuddly finish, but I'll always tailor the style to suit your Cavapoo's coat and your brushing routine at home.

What's your cancellation policy?

I ask for at least 24 hours' notice if you need to rearrange, as it means I can offer your slot to another dog on the waiting list. Just drop me a message if your plans change and I'll always do my best to find you another time that works. Late cancellations or no shows may be subject to a fee.
