Hello, I'm Lucy, and it's a real pleasure to look after so many dogs from New Earswick. It's such a friendly place, laid out as Joseph Rowntree's garden village with all those green verges and tree-lined avenues, and I think that neighbourly feel shows in the dogs too. A lot of my New Earswick regulars come home caked in mud after a wander around the nature reserve or a splash along the River Foss, and that's exactly the sort of dog I love to freshen up.
My salon is only a short run away in Wigginton, an easy trip up through Haxby with parking right outside, so drop-off and collection stay calm and simple. Being so close means it's no trouble at all for regular visits, and plenty of local families pop over on their way to or from the village shops. Because it's just me and your dog, there's no queue and no crowded kennels, and I can give my full attention to whoever is on the table.
A little about Lucy
I hold my Level 2 and 3 Diplomas in Dog Grooming and I am always adding to my training, but my real motivation is simple: I adore dogs. Every pup who comes in is treated with the same patience and affection I would want for my own. My About page has the full story.
A full groom with me is a proper top-to-tail affair. I start with a warm bath and a gentle hand dry, then move on to a clip or scissor finish to suit the coat, before checking and trimming nails and carefully cleaning around the ears. I take it at your dog's pace, reading how they're feeling as we go, so a first-timer and an old hand both leave settled and comfortable.
I hold my Level 2 and 3 Diplomas in Dog Grooming, and I work crate-free and one-to-one throughout. For me it's about trust and comfort first, with the smart finish being the happy bonus.

Common Questions
When can my New Earswick puppy have their first groom?
I'd love to meet your puppy once they've had their second set of vaccinations, usually around 12 to 14 weeks. I keep those first visits short and full of cuddles as a gentle Puppy Introduction, so your little one learns that a trip to the groomers is a happy occasion rather than something to worry about. It sets them up beautifully for a relaxed grooming life.
How often should I bring my dog in for a groom?
For most New Earswick dogs I'd suggest a full groom every 6 to 8 weeks, which keeps coats healthy and manageable between visits. If your dog is out on the nature reserve or by the Foss a lot and picks up plenty of mud, a freshen-up bath in between can help too. We can settle on a cycle that suits your dog's coat and your routine.
My dog gets filthy on the local walks, will grass seeds be a problem?
They can be, especially in summer after walks around the reserve and the village greens, so it's well worth staying on top of. During every groom I check carefully between the pads, in the ears and around the armpits for grass seeds and burrs, as those spots are where they love to hide. Catching them early keeps your dog comfortable and saves a lot of bother later on.
What are your booking and cancellation terms?
Village life can throw up the odd surprise, so I completely understand when plans change. I just ask for at least 24 hours' notice if you need to rearrange, which lets me offer your slot to another New Earswick pup on the waiting list. Late cancellations or no-shows may be subject to a small fee.
