Hello, I'm Lucy, and whether you have a Toy, Miniature or Standard Poodle, I'd love to look after them. Poodles all share the same wonderful coat: a dense, curly single coat that keeps growing continuously rather than moulting like most breeds. It's one of the reasons they suit so many allergy sufferers, but that same coat asks for proper upkeep, because without regular brushing those tight curls readily trap loose hair and knot into mats close to the skin.
Since the coat never stops growing, most Poodles do best with a full clip every four to six weeks, alongside regular brushing and combing at home to keep the curls open between visits. A groom with me involves a warm bath, then drying the coat straight so I can see it properly, followed by careful clipping and scissoring into a neat, even finish. I round things off with clean ears and nails trimmed to a comfortable length.

I am Lucy, City and Guilds Level 2 and 3 qualified with a real love of coat work, and Poodles are wonderful for exactly that. Qualifications aside, it is dogs themselves I am devoted to, and making sure each one enjoys their time with me. My About page tells you more.

We can go for a practical, low-maintenance lamb trim, a soft rounded teddy-bear style, or something a little more traditional if you prefer. I'll always talk through what suits your dog's lifestyle, your brushing routine at home and the look you love, so you leave with a style that genuinely works for you both.
Every appointment is one to one and completely crate free, so your Poodle is never sat waiting in a cage and has my full attention from start to finish. I hold a Level 2 and 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming, and I keep everything calm and gentle, taking as much time as your dog needs. From wriggly puppies having their very first clip to long-standing regulars across York, the approach is always the same.

Common Questions
When can my Poodle puppy have their first clip?
Bring your Poodle puppy in as soon as they've had their second set of vaccinations, usually around 12 to 14 weeks. My Puppy Introduction is all about positive associations, getting them happy with the clippers, brush and dryer while the coat is still soft. Starting early is especially important for Poodles, because that curly coat needs regular clipping for life, so we really want them to love it from the very start.
How often should a Poodle be clipped?
Because a Poodle's coat grows continuously and doesn't moult, I'd recommend a full clip every four to six weeks. Leaving it much longer lets the curls tighten and mat close to the skin, which is uncomfortable for your dog and harder to put right. Regular brushing and combing at home between visits keeps the coat open and makes each appointment a much easier, happier one.
Is a Poodle's coat clipped or hand stripped?
Poodles are clipped, not hand stripped, so there's no plucking involved. Their continuously growing curly coat is maintained with clipping and scissoring, which is exactly why those regular four to six week appointments matter so much. I'll shape your Poodle into whichever style suits them, from a low-maintenance lamb or teddy trim to something more traditional, keeping the coat healthy, even and comfortable throughout.
What's your cancellation policy?
I ask for at least 24 hours' notice if you need to rearrange, as it means I can offer your slot to another dog on the waiting list. Just drop me a message if your plans change and I'll always do my best to find you another time that works. Late cancellations or no shows may be subject to a fee.
