Goldendoodle Dog Grooming by Fluffs

The Labrador Specialist: High-Performance Grooming in York

Based in Wigginton, Fluffs provides a technical grooming solution for York’s most active Labradors. Founded by Lucy—whose background as a professional walker means she understands exactly what a "muddy Wednesday" at Strensall Common looks like—we move beyond the basic bath. We specialise in deep-cleansing and intensive deshedding for the hardy, water-resistant double coats that define the breed.

Science-Led Coat Recovery & One-to-One Care

A Labrador’s coat is their primary defence against the elements, but it's also the primary source of "doggy" odors and household shedding. As a Level 2 and Level 3 Qualified stylist, Lucy focuses on the structural health of the coat. We don't just wash; we use high-velocity air-flow and specialist hygiene treatments to lift the dead undercoat that traditional brushing misses.
Many larger dogs find the vibration and confined spaces of high-street salons intimidating. At Fluffs, we’ve ditched the "conveyor belt" model. Your Labrador enjoys a strictly private, crate-free session where they are the sole focus. It’s a calm, professional environment designed for dogs who deserve a more dignified grooming experience.

The Labrador "Refresh & Restore" Process

Our Labrador-specific protocol is built for health, hygiene, and a hair-free home:

  • Intensive Undercoat Removal: A multi-stage deshedding process that targets the dense "insulation" layer. This significantly reduces household shedding and allows the skin to regulate temperature effectively.
  • Deep-Pressure Hydro-Cleansing: We use targeted water pressure to blast through the "greasy" water-repellent guard hairs, reaching the skin to neutralise oils and remove embedded silt from local walks.
  • Botanical Skin Nourishment: Labradors are prone to seasonal dryness. We apply nutrient-rich, scent-neutralising conditioners that restore the coat's natural shine without stripping away vital protective oils.
  • Active-Dog Maintenance: Precision nail filing for comfort on York’s pavements, combined with deep ear cleaning and a "health-first" check to ensure your dog is fit for their next trail.

Experience a higher standard of local care. At Fluffs, we combine a walker’s practical knowledge with a specialist’s technical precision.

Your dog means the world to you, so choosing the right groomer matters.

At Fluffs, grooming is not just about appearance; it is about comfort, care and trust.

I hold a Level 2 & 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming and each appointment is a one-to-one experience tailored to your dog's breed, coat type and personality. I take time to understand what your dog needs and how they are feeling, ensuring every session is as relaxed and positive as possible.

From puppies learning the ropes to dogs who have been coming for years, every groom follows the same gentle approach.

High-Performance Labrador Grooming in York

From intensive seasonal de-shedding to deep-cleansing skin therapy, our Labrador protocol focuses on coat function, oil balance, and a high-shine, healthy finish:

  • The Professional De-Shedding Protocol: A technical, multi-stage process to lift and remove the dead, trapped undercoat. This significantly reduces household shedding and allows your Labrador’s skin to breathe and regulate temperature.
  • The Deep-Pressure Hydro-Cleanse: Using targeted water pressure to penetrate the water-resistant guard hairs, we reach the skin to neutralise deep-seated "doggy" odours and remove silt from local York trails.
  • The Botanical Gloss Finish: We use nutrient-dense, pH-balanced conditioners that replenish the natural protective oils of the coat, leaving a lightweight, mirror-like shine without any greasy residue.

The Fluffs Difference for York’s Labradors

We understand that Labradors are enthusiastic, social explorers who can find the floor-vibrations and noise of high-volume salons intimidating. By providing a strictly private, one-to-one boutique environment in Wigginton, we offer a calm, dignified alternative to "conveyor-belt" grooming.

Managed by Lucy—whose background as a professional walker means she understands the realities of an active dog’s life—Fluffs provides a service that balances technical Level 3 expertise with practical care. If you are looking for a specialist who understands the science of the double coat and treats your Labrador with a patient, attentive hand, we look forward to welcoming you.

FAQs

Common Questions

At what age should my puppy have their first groom?

I recommend bringing your little one in as soon as they’ve had their second set of vaccinations (usually around 12–14 weeks). my Puppy Introduction is all about "paws-itive" associations—we keep it short and sweet with lots of cuddles so they learn that the groomers is a fun place to be, not a scary one

How long does a full groom take at Fluffs?

On average, a Full Dog Groom takes between 2 to 3 hours, depending on your pup’s coat condition and size. We take our time to ensure every dog feels relaxed and pampered. We’ll give you a "heads up" text about 15 minutes before your best friend is ready for their red-carpet exit

Does hand stripping hurt my dog?

Not at all! When a coat is "blown" (ready to come out), hand stripping is a painless, natural process. It’s actually the best way to maintain the wire-hair texture and deep colour for breeds like Terriers. I have been expertly trained to do this gently, ensuring your pup stays comfortable throughout the session

What is your appointment & cancellation policy?

I ask for at least 24 hours' notice if you need to reschedule. This allows me to offer the slot to a pup on our waiting list. Late cancellations or "no-shows" will be subject to a fee.
