Hello, I'm Lucy, and I look after a good many dogs from Strensall. It's a village that suits an active dog down to the ground, with Strensall Common right on the doorstep, so I see plenty of pups who arrive smelling of heather and gorse with a fair bit of the heathland still clinging to their coats. All that roaming across the common and the woodland paths is wonderful for them, but it does mean burrs, sand and the odd tangle, which is where I'm glad to help.
The salon is a short, easy drive from Strensall through Haxby and Wigginton, with parking right outside so drop-off and collection stay simple and calm. Being just up the road makes it easy to keep on top of regular appointments, which really does help with a coat that's forever collecting the outdoors. It's just me and your dog for the whole visit, one-to-one and crate-free, so there's never any rush or a crowded room to unsettle a nervous pup.

A groom with me covers the lot, done gently and in the right order. I begin with a warm bath to lift out all that common mud, then a careful hand dry, a clip or scissor finish to suit the coat, and a tidy-up of nails and ears to finish. Along the way I keep a close eye out for grass seeds, which those Strensall walks are famous for hiding away.
I hold my Level 2 and 3 Diplomas in Dog Grooming and take a calm, unhurried approach with every dog, from bouncy young spaniels to steady older companions. Comfort and trust come first, and the smart finish follows naturally.

Common Questions
When is my Strensall puppy ready for their first visit?
Once your puppy has had their second set of vaccinations, usually around 12 to 14 weeks, I'd be delighted to welcome them in. I keep those first sessions short and full of gentle cuddles as a Puppy Introduction, helping your little one feel safe and happy before all those big Strensall Common adventures start filling their coat with mud and burrs.
How often should an active Strensall dog be groomed?
For most Strensall dogs I'd recommend a full groom every 6 to 8 weeks to keep the coat healthy and free of matting. If yours is out on the common most days and comes home well and truly mucky, a bath in between visits can be a real help too. We can work out a cadence that fits your dog's coat and how much of the outdoors they bring home.
Should I worry about grass seeds after walks on the common?
It's well worth being aware of, as the heathland and long grass on Strensall Common are a classic spot for grass seeds in the warmer months. At every groom I check carefully between the pads, in the ears and around the armpits, since those are the places seeds like to burrow. Catching them early keeps your dog comfortable and avoids a trickier problem down the line.
What notice do you need to change or cancel an appointment?
I know plans change, especially when you're juggling family and long walks across the common. I simply ask for at least 24 hours' notice if you need to rearrange, so I can offer the slot to another Strensall pup who is waiting. Late cancellations or no-shows may be subject to a small fee.
