Cockapoo grooming in York, done properly

Cockapoos are one of my absolute favourites to welcome, and York seems to be full of them. That soft curly or wavy coat is a big part of their charm, but it needs real, ongoing care. A Cockapoo coat keeps growing rather than moulting away, and it mats easily, especially behind the ears, under the legs and around the harness line, so regular grooming is genuinely essential rather than a treat.

Because that coat curls and tangles rather than shedding out, it is best kept in shape by clipping and scissoring, never hand stripping. Every visit I bath and thoroughly dry your dog, brush and deshed to lift out any loose hair, then clip or scissor the coat into shape before finishing the nails and gently checking and cleaning the ears. The soft, rounded teddy bear trim is one I create time and again, and I am always happy to talk through a length and style that suits both your dog and your washing-machine reality at home.

To keep everything comfortable and knot free I usually suggest a full groom every six to eight weeks, with a little brushing at home in between. Between visits, a few minutes with a slicker brush behind the ears and under the legs goes a long way.

What makes Fluffs different is how calm and unhurried it is. It is just me and your dog, one to one, with no crates and no waiting around in a busy room. I hold a Level 2 and 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming, and I tailor each appointment to your Cockapoo's coat type and personality, so they leave soft, settled and looking every bit the happy bundle they are.

FAQs

Common Questions

When should my Cockapoo puppy have its first groom?

Cockapoo puppies do so well when they start young. I recommend a first visit once they have had their second set of vaccinations, usually around 12 to 14 weeks. My Puppy Introduction sessions are short, gentle and full of cuddles, getting your curly little one used to being brushed, bathed and handled long before their coat thickens and begins to mat.

How often does a Cockapoo need grooming?

Because a Cockapoo coat grows continuously and tangles easily, I usually recommend a full groom every six to eight weeks. Leaving it much longer than that lets mats form close to the skin, which is uncomfortable for your dog. A little brushing at home between visits, especially behind the ears and under the legs, keeps everything soft and manageable.

Should a Cockapoo coat be clipped or hand stripped?

Cockapoos are not a hand stripped breed, so there is no plucking involved at all. Their soft, curly or wavy coat is best maintained by careful clipping and scissoring into shape, along with a thorough brush and deshed to lift out loose, dead hair. This keeps the coat light, comfortable and tangle free, which is exactly what a growing Cockapoo coat needs.

What is your cancellation policy?

I completely understand that life gets busy, so if you need to rearrange your Cockapoo's appointment I simply ask for at least 24 hours' notice. That gives me the chance to offer the slot to another curly coated pup on the waiting list. Late cancellations or no shows may be subject to a small fee.
