Dedicated Golden Retriever Care for York Owners
Nestled in the quiet village of Wigginton, Fluffs Dog Grooming provides a specialist retreat for York’s Golden Retrievers. Whether your "Goldie" has been swimming in the River Foss or trekking through the local woodlands, we specialise in restoring that famous lustrous coat while ensuring it remains functional for their next big adventure.
Expert Scissoring & A One-to-One Approach
Tailored Retriever Treatments
Our services focus on the specific health and hygiene needs of the Golden Retriever breed:
- The Natural Silhouette: We use precision thinning and blending to tidy "wild" feathers on the legs, chest, and tail, creating a clean, balanced look that highlights their breed-standard beauty.
- Advanced Deshedding: A thorough undercoat removal process that significantly reduces shedding around your home and prevents painful hotspots caused by trapped moisture and loose fur.
- The Hydrobath Cleanse: A deep-reaching wash to remove ground-in mud and grit, followed by a professional hand-dry. This ensures the coat is clean to the skin and completely free of dander.
- Active-Dog Maintenance: We pay special attention to the "grinch feet" and sanitary areas, keeping them short and tidy to prevent mud being tracked into the house after local walks.
Experience a more thoughtful approach to Golden Retriever grooming in York. At Fluffs, we combine a walker’s practical knowledge with an expert stylist’s technical skill.
Your dog means the world to you, so choosing the right groomer matters.
At Fluffs, grooming is not just about appearance; it is about comfort, care and trust.
I hold a Level 2 & 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming and each appointment is a one-to-one experience tailored to your dog's breed, coat type and personality. I take time to understand what your dog needs and how they are feeling, ensuring every session is as relaxed and positive as possible.
From puppies learning the ropes to dogs who have been coming for years, every groom follows the same gentle approach.

Bespoke Golden Retriever Styling in York
From a "Puppy’s First Golden Glow" introduction to full breed-standard tidy-ups, our Retriever menu is designed to manage the thickest of coats while prioritising comfort:
- The Full Retriever Groom: A specialist treatment focusing on thinning out the dense undercoat and hand-scissoring those signature feathers for a neat, "show-ready" silhouette.
- The Paw & Pad Tidy: A essential service to clear "Grinch feet" and trim the hair between pads, helping your dog stay steady on slippery York floors and bringing less mud home from walks.
- The Deep Cleanse & Deshed: A high-pressure hydrobath to penetrate the thick double coat, followed by a professional blowout to blast away loose fur and dander, leaving the coat incredibly soft and manageable.
Why York’s Golden Retrievers Choose Fluffs
We understand that Golden Retrievers are "people dogs" who love attention but can find the noise of a large-scale salon overwhelming. By offering a calm, one-to-one boutique environment in Wigginton, we ensure your dog feels like a member of the family rather than just another number in a queue.
Lucy’s Level 3 qualifications and years spent handling various temperaments as a professional walker mean she knows exactly how to keep a Retriever happy and cooperative. If you are looking for a York groomer who respects the double coat (no shaving!) and understands the needs of an active, outdoor dog, we’d be delighted to welcome you to the Fluffs family.
Common Questions
At what age should my puppy have their first groom?
I recommend bringing your little one in as soon as they’ve had their second set of vaccinations (usually around 12–14 weeks). my Puppy Introduction is all about "paws-itive" associations—we keep it short and sweet with lots of cuddles so they learn that the groomers is a fun place to be, not a scary one
How long does a full groom take at Fluffs?
On average, a Full Dog Groom takes between 2 to 3 hours, depending on your pup’s coat condition and size. We take our time to ensure every dog feels relaxed and pampered. We’ll give you a "heads up" text about 15 minutes before your best friend is ready for their red-carpet exit
Does hand stripping hurt my dog?
Not at all! When a coat is "blown" (ready to come out), hand stripping is a painless, natural process. It’s actually the best way to maintain the wire-hair texture and deep colour for breeds like Terriers. I have been expertly trained to do this gently, ensuring your pup stays comfortable throughout the session
What is your appointment & cancellation policy?
I ask for at least 24 hours' notice if you need to reschedule. This allows me to offer the slot to a pup on our waiting list. Late cancellations or "no-shows" will be subject to a fee.
