Bichon Frise grooming in York, done with care
Hello, I'm Lucy, and I'd love to look after your Bichon Frise. Bichons have a soft, curly double coat that is genuinely high maintenance, because it keeps growing rather than moulting and those fine curls readily trap loose hair and knot into mats close to the skin. Left too long between grooms it can felt right down to the roots, so regular upkeep really is the kindest thing for them.
That coat is also what gives the Bichon its wonderful look, and the rounded powder-puff trim is the signature style, that soft, plush, cloud-like finish scissored evenly all over. A groom with me begins with a warm bath, then drying the coat straight so I can see it clearly, followed by careful clipping and scissoring to shape that neat rounded silhouette. Bichons are clipped and scissored, never hand stripped, so there is no plucking involved.
Meet Lucy at Fluffs
I'm Lucy, and a genuine love of dogs is what led me into grooming in the first place. I hold a City and Guilds Level 2 and 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming and I am hand-stripping trained, though few things beat scissoring a happy little Bichon into a soft, rounded finish. Do pop over to the About page to read more about me.

Being such a bright white breed, they do show every mark, so I pay close attention to the face, gently cleaning around the eyes where tear staining tends to gather and keeping everything tidy and comfortable. I check and clean the ears as I go, and finish with nails trimmed to a sensible length, so your Bichon leaves feeling fresh from nose to tail.
Every appointment is one to one and completely crate free, so your Bichon is never left waiting in a cage and has my full attention from start to finish. I hold a Level 2 and 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming, and I keep everything calm and gentle, taking as much time as your dog needs, from a nervous first visit to my long-standing regulars across York.
Common Questions
When can my Bichon Frise puppy have their first groom?
Bring your Bichon puppy in as soon as they've had their second set of vaccinations, usually around 12 to 14 weeks. My Puppy Introduction is a gentle, positive first visit, getting them used to the bath, brush, dryer and clippers while their coat is still soft. Starting early really matters for a Bichon, because that curly coat needs regular grooming for life, so I want them to feel happy and settled with me from the very beginning.
How often does a Bichon Frise need grooming?
Because a Bichon's coat grows continuously and doesn't moult, I'd recommend a full groom every four to six weeks. That coat mats very easily, and leaving it longer lets the curls felt close to the skin, which is uncomfortable and much harder to put right. Regular brushing at home between visits, right down to the skin, keeps the coat open and makes each appointment far easier and happier for your dog.
Is a Bichon Frise's coat clipped or hand stripped?
Bichons are clipped and scissored, never hand stripped, so there's no plucking involved. That soft, curly double coat is shaped with clipping and scissoring into the signature rounded powder-puff trim, the plush, cloud-like look the breed is known for. Because they're such a bright white breed I also take real care of the face, gently cleaning where tear staining gathers around the eyes and keeping the coat neat and comfortable.
What's your cancellation policy?
