Your local Pomeranian groomer in York
Hello, I'm Lucy, and I know just how much your Pomeranian means to you, so choosing the right groomer really does matter. Poms may be tiny, but their coat is a big responsibility. That fluffy, stand-off look comes from a thick double coat: a dense, woolly undercoat beneath a longer, harsher topcoat, finished with the profuse ruff around the neck and chest that gives the breed its lovely lion-like frame.
The key to keeping a Pom looking and feeling wonderful is gentle, regular deshedding and brushing to lift out the loose undercoat before it packs down into knots behind the ears, in the armpits and around the trousers. A groom with me starts with a warm bath, then a careful blow-dry and thorough deshedding to work that loose coat out slowly and kindly, never in a rush. I finish with a neat tidy, clean ears and nails trimmed to a comfortable length.
Meet Lucy
I hold my City and Guilds Level 2 and 3 Diplomas in Dog Grooming, with specialist hand-stripping training. Little Poms are a delight, and caring for them gently is a real pleasure. A genuine love of dogs is what drew me to grooming in the first place. There is more on my About page.

One thing I'll always talk you through is why we never shave a Pomeranian back to the skin. The double coat protects them from both heat and cold, and clipping it right off can trigger post-clip alopecia, where the fur grows back patchy, woolly or sometimes not at all. Instead I deshed, tidy and neaten so your Pom stays cool, comfortable and every bit as fluffy as nature intended.
Every appointment is one to one and completely crate free, so your little one is never left waiting in a cage and has my full attention throughout. I hold a Level 2 and 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming, and I keep things calm and unhurried, which suits Poms beautifully, since they can be big characters in small bodies. From nervous puppies to seasoned regulars here in York, every groom follows the same gentle approach.
Common Questions
When should my Pomeranian puppy come in for their first groom?
Bring your Pomeranian puppy in as soon as they've had their second set of vaccinations, usually around 12 to 14 weeks. Poms can be little characters, so my Puppy Introduction keeps things short, gentle and full of cuddles, getting them used to the brush, the dryer and being handled all over. Starting young means that thick double coat is never a battle later on.
How often does a Pomeranian need grooming?
With that dense double coat, I'd recommend a Pomeranian comes in every four to six weeks for a full groom and deshed, with regular brushing at home in between. Little and often is the secret with Poms, because it lifts out the loose undercoat before it has a chance to pack down into mats around the ruff, ears and trousers, keeping the coat healthy and your dog comfortable.
Do you ever shave a Pomeranian's coat?
No, I never shave a Pom back to the skin. Their double coat regulates temperature in both heat and cold, and clipping it off can cause post-clip alopecia, where the fur grows back patchy or woolly. Poms aren't a hand stripped breed either, so there's no plucking involved. Instead I care for the coat with thorough deshedding and brushing to lift out the dead undercoat and keep that signature fluffy look healthy.
What happens if I need to cancel?
I ask for at least 24 hours' notice if you need to rearrange, as it lets me offer your slot to another little one on the waiting list. A quick message is all it takes, and I completely understand that life with a dog sometimes gets in the way. Late cancellations or no shows may be subject to a fee.
